Fireworks for All

This year offers no excuses for missing patriotic pomp and circumstance. Whether you’re venturing into the city or stuck in the suburbs, chase the spectacle.

Fourth of July fireworks are set to illuminate the sky in all directions. Here’s a roundup.

Navy Pier. If you don’t know this firework mecca by now, climb out from under that rock. Head to the pier for some touristy indulgence during the day, and hang around for the 9:30 show. You can even migrate to a nearby perch to watch – beach, patio, best friend’s rooftop. July 4; 600 E Grand Ave; Free.

Evanston. Move north for another lake-launched display. Clark Street Beach hosts the sparks. You can view throughout the lakefront section, just east of this hood’s downtown. July 4; Clark Street Beach (1811 Sheridan Rd, Evanston); 9:15PM; Free.

Lake Forest. Don’t stop ’til you get enough. MJ Live handles your pre-show pump up. Sing along to your favorite Michael Jackson covers before the main thriller. Look to the skies at 9:40 for the works. July 4; Deerpath Community Park; 5-10PM; $20.

Rosemont. If you’re more Sweet Caroline than Billie Jean, check out Rockin in the Park, which welcomes Denny Diamond for a tribute to Neil Diamond followed by, you guessed it, more fireworks! July 3; MB Financial Park (5501 Park Pl, Rosemont); 7–10PM; Free.

Glen Ellyn. What if you could celebrate freedom with a parade, carnival, music, food truck, and fireworks, all in one patriotic package. Glen Ellyn makes this uber achievable. Get your pride-filled self to the fest to sample the splendor with noms by Yum Dum, Chicago Pizza Boss and more. Parade starts at noon. July 4; Lake Ellyn Park (645 Lenox Rd, Glen Ellyn); Fireworks at dusk; Free.

Skokie. Welcome this Independence Day in technicolor. All attendees will see fireworks of a lifetime by scoring glasses that amplify color and add dimension. The “3D” extravaganza explodes at dusk. July 4; Niles West High School (5701 Oakton St, Skokie); Dusk; Free.

Start the magic a day early…

Berwyn. Berwyn knows a thing or two about rising. Behold skyrocketing from the cozy town’s Morton West High School on Sunday, before all the fuss starts. July 3; Morton West High School; 8:30PM.

Oak Brook. Shop the outdoor mall, or fill up courtesy of local restaurants before the fireworks kick off. The Taste features fine dining from Oak Brook and beyond. July 3; Polo Grounds off of 31st Street between Spring and York Roads; Dusk; Admission: Free, Parking: $10.
